People ordering food in a restaurant with bright 24% more likely to choose nutritious food such as salads, vegetables, and grilled fish than those who booked in the dim room. On average, people in the restaurant with dim lighting alias cozy ordered food with a calorie content of 39% more.
“Lighting the light might make you choose healthy foods by making the brain awake,” said study author Dipayan Biswas, PhD, a professor of marketing at the University of South Florida.
Light can suppress the production of the brain of the sleep hormone melatonin, so that makes you attentive. And that makes you more likely to make realistic decisions, such as choosing broccoli instead of fries.
Of course, you can not change the lighting in the restaurant, but you can use these findings to alter your own kitchen.
When you crave a snack, make sure the light in the kitchen in a state of light. Including when you want to cook, make sure the sun highlights the room.
If you find yourself in a cozy restaurant, begin your meal with a cup of tea or coffee. The researchers say that caffeine has an effect similar to bright lighting, which helps the brain to make smart eating choices.
